With excellent facilities on offer at the Matale Stadium, and a host of welcoming players eager to take on your team, it’s hard to believe that Sri Lanka is a mere fledgling on the hockey field.
But what they lack in experience as a hockey playing nation, they certainly make up for in enthusiasm.
Our specialist sports division arranges a tailor-made tour directly from Colombo, bringing you the expertise and value-for-money deals that come from being part of one of Sri Lanka’s largest tailor-made holiday companies.
It has to be said that artificial pitches are in short supply. Sri Lanka has just two – in Matale and Colombo – and apart from that hockey is played as enthusiastically as ever on grass surfaces.
That does not affect the enduring popularity of school hockey with more than 100 schools focusing on it as a sporting priority.
There is so much to enjoy in the island with a little bit of everything: gorgeous tropical beaches, game parks, ruined cities, the stirring mountains of the hill country, and the lovable capital of Colombo.
If you are interested in a tailor-made hockey tour to Sri Lanka, trust Red Dot Sports to make it extra special.
On arrival in Colombo, you will be met by our local Red Dot representative who will act as your local tour guide during your holiday in Sri Lanka. You will then transfer to the OZO Colombo where you can recuperate and relax.
The second day is an academic day, head over to the Colombo Hockey Association for a training session. Spend the rest of the day exploring the best of what Colombo has to offer. You may like to organise a special dinner on this night at the Ministry of Crab.

On this morning drive up to Kandy which is considered to be the Sri Lankan hill capital, here you will stay at the OZO Kandy. En route you will visit the Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF). Spend a few hours with an elephant expert and animal rights activist who will give you the unique opportunity to meet, walk with, and bathe the elephants.
Match Day | 03 – Bogambara Stadium
Dating all the way back to 1897 when this ground was converted from a lake into a playing field. After it was renovated in 1997, the venue was now been labelled as an international standard stadium. Since the renovations, many sporting teams have opted to use this venue to not only play hockey but also other sports such as rugby and football.
Today your guide will accompany the team as they visit the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens in the morning. The gardens lies at an elevation of 460 meters above sea-level, tightly bounded on three sides by the loop of the River Mahaweli (Great Sandy River) – Sri Lanka’s largest river. During WWII the gardens were the headquarters of the allied command for the pacific. In the evening head over to the Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic which is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha.
Match Day | 04 – Edward Park Hockey Ground, Matale
The final day of the tour will be spent at leisure, you will then transfer to the Bandaranaike International Airport where your tour will finally come to an end.
Red Dot is entirely flexible. For example, if you wish to see more of the fast-improving capital Colombo at the end of your holiday, we can adjust to suit.
